Top bloggers, execs, small and not-so-small business owners, educators and students all gather to empower themselves and their communities at LATISM16. For the last five years I have had the immense opportunity to not only attend but be part of the LATISM (Latinos in Tech, Innovation and Social Media) movement. “Latinos as Change Agents” is this year’s theme for the three-day conference that explores tech and social media as avenues for empowering the Latino community. It consists of panels that are centered around LATISM’s seven (7) different focus areas:
- Business and Tech Entrepreneurship
- Civic Engagement
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Education
- Health
- Policy
- Hackathon and STEAM Fair
I have to say that every year I am most excited about the Business track. See this post from 2011! I can’t help it. I am a believer in all the pillars above and I think that we each have our own way of being a change agent through one of these focuses, often several at the same time. But for me, today, business is a priority. I am in that stage in my life where I want to nurture the seeds I planted in my 20’s. Additionally, to truly help others in the long-run, we must be able to help ourselves. We must handle our business!
That said, I always make an effort to visit at least one or two other tracks at LATISM. I always look to learn something new and get out of my comfort zone.
Additionally, maybe Health or perhaps Policy is your business from a job or entrepreneurial standpoint. So, those panels may be a good choice for you.
This is what makes LATISM a wonderful event. The variety of topics satisfies so many of areas for professional and personal development emphasizing the Latino community. Whether you are an executive, stay-at-home parent, student or in an “other” category, you will find something meaningful at LATISM. It really is like no other conference.
If you are going to LATISM and feeling overwhelmed, lost or a little shy, look for me. I will be happy to help guide you! And don’t forget to use my registration code for a reduced rate “INFLUENCER16”.
