The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Annual National Convention is the largest gathering of Hispanic business leaders in America and I was able to attend the event last week, September 20-22. The 36th Annual National Convention is the country’s largest networking venue for Hispanic business and Fortune 1000 corporations interested in the Hispanic market. What was very exciting for me was that this year the event took place in my home state of Texas in Houston, TX, at the Hilton Americas.

The National Convention affords Hispanic vendors and corporate buyers the opportunity to establish partnerships where business opportunities can flourish. I ran into many friends and former colleagues and of course met new people.

Some of the speakers and guests this year were:

Public officials: Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, HUD Secretary Julian Castro, Congressman Joaquin Castro, Texas Governor Abbott, Senator John Cornyn, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor, Mexican Ambassador Alejandro Estivill and others.

CEOs: John Mingé, Chairman & President, BP America, Inc; Marcelo Claure, Manolo Sanchez, Chairman & CEO, BBVA Compass and more.

Thanks to Verizon, I was able to not just attend the conference, but also chat with people about technology. I also had the chance to check out many of the small business specific tools that Verizon offers while visiting the Verizon booth.  I spoke with CEOs, mayors, small business owners to name a few to learn how each one uses tech everyday to grow their business.

Some of the key points that business owners highlighted were:

• Tech that was easy to use like phones and tablets 
• Tech that was accessible from the road like blue tooth enabled devices
• Tech that is smart like logistic tracking
• Tech that is dependable like a strong network
